About Flora Ray

Flora Ray is a Somerset based creative floral design studio and shop founded by Courtney Atherton. With a background in the arts, interior design and architecture industry, flowers are now the chosen medium to move and inspire

We believe in the powers of flowers.

With all that we do, we aim to be kind to the planet and each other. We favour foam-free methods of construction, recycle until the cows come home and work with local growers wherever possible.

What’s in a name?

FLORA: The Roman goddess of flowers, fertility and spring. A goddess held in high esteem as the deliverer and protector of new and flourishing life. A joyful guardian to the circle of life, in flowers, crops and people.  

Depicted in the art world throughout history, perhaps most notably in Botticelli’s Primavera and The Birth of Venus. Paintings which inspired generations to follow, none more so than my favoured era, romantic as hell Pre Raphaelites. Who’s artworks and poems overflowed with the symbolistic language of flowers. This was of course the Victorian age, where the language was gloriously celebrated. 

RAY: Rays of light. Ever changing, ever present, our true constant in life. A marker of seasons, a warmer of hearts, a giver of moods.
