Magnolia

Magnolia  x Soulangeana (saucer Magnolia)

One of, if not the most, favoured horticultural Magnolia tree in the UK. It’s become an emblem of spring and a joy to spot the first flowering. It’s flowers emerge dramatically on a bare tree at the beginning of the season, emphasising their splendid size and oval form. Perhaps the trees popularity is a continuation from Victorian times when the tree was seen as a symbol of dignity and nobility. It certainly continues to exude this feeling, with it’s glorious head of pink (or white) flowers.
